Migration from Audience Targeting

Migrating User Segments

Note

Starting in Liferay DXP 2026.Q1, Segments moves toward a unified experience with Analytics Cloud. The impact depends on your installation type:

  • Existing Customers: Your experience remains unchanged for at least one year. You can continue to create and edit segments in DXP as usual, though a deprecation badge now appears in the interface.

  • New Installs: The module is read-only by default, displaying segments synced from Analytics Cloud. To enable local segment creation and editing, you must enable the deprecation feature flag manually, which will be removed in a future release.

We recommend using Analytics Cloud as your single source of truth for segmentation moving forward.

A user segment represents a subset of users with a common set of properties. Segmentation in Liferay 7.2+ works similarly to Audience Targeting in previous Liferay DXP versions. In Audience Targeting, you create rules that users must match to belong to a user segment. In Segmentation, you create conditions that can be combined in different ways to define complex filters. For more information on creating user Segments, see Creating and Managing User Segments.

Upgrade Paths for Audience Targeting Rules

Due to the similarities between Audience Targeting user segments and Liferay DXP 7.2+ Segments, most of your configuration is automatically transferred into Liferay Segmentation during the upgrade. The following table shows the upgrade path for Audience Targeting rules when migrating to Liferay Segments conditions:
