Audiences

Audience Attributes Reference

Beta Feature Liferay DXP 2026.Q3+

Each audience condition pairs an attribute with an operator and a value. These attributes are grouped under three general types: Browser, General, and Custom.

Custom appears only when an audiencesCustomAttributes client extension is deployed.

Browser Attributes

The Browser type covers information about a visitor’s device, browser, and the page being viewed. These attributes are available out-of-the-box.

AttributeValue TypeDetected Value
Browser NamestringThe visitor’s browser, such as Chrome or Safari. Empty when the browser cannot be identified.
Browser VersionstringThe version of the visitor’s browser. Empty when the version cannot be identified.
CookiessetThe cookies set in the visitor’s browser. Each entry is a complete name=value pair.
Device TypestringThe kind of device the visitor is using: console, embedded, mobile, smarttv, tablet, wearable, or xr. Any device that reports none of these is desktop.
Hostname or IP AddressstringThe host of the current page URL, without the port number.
LanguagestringThe language the visitor’s browser is set to, as a tag such as en-US. The builder lists the instance’s available locales.
Local DatestringThe current date on the visitor’s device, in YYYY-MM-DD format.
Local HournumberThe current hour on the visitor’s device, from 0 through 23. The builder lists 00:00 through 23:00.
PathnamestringThe path portion of the current page URL, without the query string or the fragment.
Referrer URLstringThe page the visitor navigated from. Empty when the browser reports no referrer.
Request ParameterssetThe query string parameters on the current page URL. Each entry is a complete name=value pair.
Time ZonestringThe visitor’s time zone, such as America/New_York.
URLstringThe full URL of the current page, including the query string and the fragment.
User AgentstringThe complete user agent string the browser reports.

General Attributes

The General type covers the visitor’s session in Liferay DXP and the Analytics Cloud segments the visitor belongs to.

AttributeValue TypeDetected Value
SegmentsstringWhether the visitor belongs to the selected Analytics Cloud segment. The builder lists each synced segment by name.
User AuthenticationbooleanWhether the visitor is signed in to Liferay DXP. Select True or False.
User LanguagestringThe language Liferay DXP displays the page in. The builder lists the instance’s available locales.
Note

Language and User Language are separate attributes. Language reads the language the visitor’s browser is set to. User Language reads the language Liferay DXP displays the page in. The two can differ.

The Segments attribute appears only when the instance has at least one segment synced from Analytics Cloud. Liferay DXP syncs that list on a schedule, every 60 minutes by default, so a newly created segment can take up to an hour to become selectable. See Integrating Liferay Data Platform with Liferay DXP.

Custom Attributes

The Custom type appears only when the instance has at least one audiencesCustomAttributes client extension. Each attribute the client extension declares becomes one entry, labeled with the name the client extension gives it, and carries one of four value types: boolean, number, set, or string.

Conjunctions

When you have multiple conditions, you can configure whether a visitor must meet all of them or only some. Selecting All adds the AND operator between each condition, while selecting Any adds the OR operator. Each group of conditions carries its own setting, so you can require every condition in one group while requiring only one in another.
