Projects

Private Beta Feature Liferay DXP 2026.Q2+

A project is the fundamental organizational unit used to track the entire content lifecycle from start to finish within the Content Marketing Platform (CMP). Use projects as unified, permission-controlled workspaces that connect people, content, and activities around shared objectives.

Important

Activate the Content Marketing Platform using the beta feature flag and a CMP license. See Activating Content Marketing Platform for more information.

You must be a member of a Liferay CMS space with permissions to create and manage projects.

Projects are the central hub for campaigns in the Content Marketing Platform.

The project interface is organized into three primary tabs that separate high-level strategy from execution and deliverables.

  • Details: View the project description, manage team members, and track collaboration via activity history.

  • Tasks: Manage work items, deadlines, and assignees.

  • Assets: Access all content and digital media linked to the project.

By toggling between strategy in the details, execution in the task list, and final results in the assets repository, you can monitor the entire content lifecycle without leaving the project workspace.

Projects are organized in three primary tabs: Details, Tasks, and Assets.

Creating Projects

Initialize a project to begin organizing your initiatives. Once a project is created, use its centralized dashboard to manage collaborators, track progress, and update project metadata as the campaign evolves.

Follow these steps to initialize a new project:

  1. From your Liferay CMS space, click Projects under Planning.

  2. Click New.

  3. Enter a project title.

  4. (Optional) Define attributes, including manager, sponsor, description, due date, and tags.

  5. Click Save.

Create a new project initiative.

The project details view opens. From here, you can begin adding tasks and members to the workspace.

Managing Project Members

Projects use a dedicated membership model to control who can collaborate. You can add individual users or user groups and assign them specific access levels.

  1. From your Liferay CMS space, click Projects under Planning.

  2. Click title of a project.

  3. In the Members panel on the right, click View All Members.

    Click View All Members.

  4. Select the users or user groups you want to invite to the project.

    Note

Users must be members of the space before they can be added to a project.

  5. Assign the appropriate roles to each member.

  6. Click Save.

Once added, members appear in the list with their assigned roles. The panel header displays the total member count.

Configuring Project Details

Manage the project lifecycle and metadata through the Info panel and the Edit action. The state indicates the current stage of your campaign.

  1. Open the project and locate the Info panel.

  2. Click the State drop-down menu.

  3. Select the appropriate status. The default options are In Progress, Blocked, and Done.

To add new statuses, add entries to the CMP States picklist. See Picklists for more information.

Change the state of your project to match the current stage of your campaign.

To update project ownership or categorization:

  1. Click Actions (Actions) next to the project’s name.

  2. Select Edit to modify the project’s manager, sponsor, description, due date, or tags.

    Update project ownership or categorization.

  3. Work on the necessary changes and click Save.

All changes to project metadata and state are tracked in the History tab within the Activity section at the bottom of the dashboard.

Deleting a Project

Warning

Deleting a project also deletes every task belonging to it.

To remove a project, click Actions (Actions) next to the project’s name and select Delete. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

With your project structured and your team assigned, you can begin breaking down the initiative into actionable work items.
