Tasks
Release Feature (LPD-58677) Liferay DXP 2026.Q3+
Tasks are the actionable work items required to execute a project. The Content Marketing Platform (CMP) provides a flexible task framework for creating, tracking, and updating deliverables based on your current workspace context. Centralizing these activities helps your team maintain visibility and accountability throughout the campaign lifecycle.

The task details view provides a consistent environment for collaboration and asset management:
-
Description: Detailed instructions or objectives for the specific work item.
-
Assets: A dedicated repository for content and files linked to the task.
-
Info Sidebar: Quick access to change the state and assignee.
-
Activity: Use comments for contextual team discussion and see history to audit all modifications, including timestamps and contributors.
Creating Tasks
You can create tasks from the global task list, from a project’s details, or from a project’s calendar.
Creating Tasks From the Global Task List
Use this flow when reviewing all organizational work to identify and add new requirements without navigating into a specific project first.
-
From your Liferay CMS space, click Tasks under Planning.
-
Click New.
-
In the creation modal, select the destination project.
-
Click Save.
-
Enter the task details and click Save.

Creating Tasks From Project Details
When working within a specific project, CMP streamlines creation by automatically associating the new task with that project.
-
Navigate to the Tasks tab of your project.
-
Click New (or New Task if no tasks exist yet).
-
The Project field is pre-filled and read-only. Enter the Title, Assignee, and Due Date.
-
(Optional) In the Assets section, drag and drop files or click New to link deliverables directly to the task.
-
Click Save.

Monitoring Task Progress
CMP provides visual cues and notification tools to help your team manage deadlines and stay aligned on dependencies without manual follow-ups. The table and Kanban views show summary cards: Total Tasks, In Progress, Blocked, and Overdue counts.
CMP flags delayed work so missed deadlines don’t go unnoticed in long lists. Any task that passes its due date without reaching the Done state displays an orange Overdue label. This status is visible in the table or Kanban board views, and the task’s info panel.

If your work depends on a task assigned to someone else, you can watch it to receive notifications for critical updates.
-
Click Actions (
) on the task’s row in the list, on a task card in the Kanban or Calendar view, or next to the breadcrumb on the task details page, then select Watch Task.
-
You are now subscribed to notifications for status changes, assignee updates, due date changes, new comments, and blocked status.
Executing and Updating Tasks
As work moves through the execution phase, use the workspace to update task statuses and manage your view of campaign deliverables. Tasks move through four states by default: Not Started, In Progress, Blocked, and Done. You can shift a task’s state directly from your preferred view:
-
Kanban View: From the task list, click Table View (
) and select Kanban. Drag a task card from one column to another. -
Task Details: Open the task and use the State drop-down in the Info sidebar.
CMP reflects state updates in the project’s overall completion rate and logs them in the History tab.
Use the filter bar to narrow your view to specific work items:
-
Click Filter.

-
Apply the filters to display only the tasks relevant to your current focus.
The list view updates immediately to display only the results that match your criteria. You can clear individual filters or click Clear to return to the full task list.
Managing Tasks in Calendar View
From a project’s Tasks tab, click Table View (
) and select Calendar. A toolbar at the top of the calendar has three buttons labeled Day, Week, and Month; click any of them to switch how the calendar organizes your tasks.
Task cards in Week and Day views show more detail than in Month view: each card includes the task’s title, its status as a text label (for example, Not Started), and the assignee. A late task shows a second Overdue label beside its status.
A day with more tasks than fit shows an overflow link (for example, 3 More); click it to open a popover listing every task for that day.

The Total Tasks, In Progress, Blocked, and Overdue summary cards don’t appear while the Calendar view is open. Switch back to the Table or Kanban view to see them.
Working in the Calendar view takes the same task permissions as the other views: without permission to create or update tasks, the Add Task icon and the Actions menu don’t appear on the calendar.
Month View
By default, the calendar opens in Month view, with the current day highlighted. Only tasks with a due date appear on the calendar. To view tasks without a due date, click the Tasks With No Due Date button.
Use the toolbar to move through the months:
-
Click the left or right arrow (Previous Month or Next Month) to shift the grid one month at a time.
-
Click the calendar title to open the Select Date picker, choose a month and year from its drop-downs, then click a day. The calendar jumps to that date. The picker covers the ten years before and after the current year.
-
Click Today to return to the current date.
A Month view task card shows the task title and the assignee’s avatar. When you have actions available on the task, hovering over the card or moving focus to it reveals an Actions menu. A card shows an icon only when its task is Blocked or Overdue: Blocked tasks show a block icon, and Overdue tasks show an exclamation icon. A task that is both shows the Overdue icon.
Unlike the Week and Day view cards, a Month view card doesn’t show the task’s state as a text label. Every calendar card is tinted by state, though, so in Month view the background color is what tells you where a task stands: white for Not Started, blue for In Progress, red for Blocked, and green for Done. An overdue task is light orange whatever its state. Open the task when you want the state named rather than shaded.
Click a card to open the task’s details. If you don’t have permission to view a task, clicking its card does nothing. The Calendar view respects the same task visibility rules as the Table and Kanban views.
In Month view, drag a task card from one day to another to reschedule it. CMP updates the task’s due date and shows the message [task title] due date was successfully updated. If the update fails, the card returns to its original day and an error message appears.
Week View
Week view shows seven day-columns, one for each day of the selected week, with the full weekday name in your locale at the top of each column.
Click Previous Week (
) or Next Week (
) to move a week at a time, or click Today to return to the current week.
Week view supports drag-and-drop rescheduling. Drag a task card from one day to another, and CMP updates the task’s due date and shows a confirmation message.

Day View
Day view narrows the calendar to a single selected date and lists the tasks due that day.
Click Previous Day (
) or Next Day (
) to move a day at a time, or click Today to return to the current date.
Unlike Month and Week views, Day view does not support dragging an already-scheduled task to a new date. You can still drag a task from the No Due Date panel onto the day to give it a due date, which shows the same confirmation message as the other views.

Creating Tasks From the Calendar
Every day cell shows an Add Task (
) icon when you hover over it. The icon and the clickable cell appear only when you have permission to create tasks.
-
Click the icon, or click any empty space in the cell, to open the New Task modal. The Project field is pre-filled with the current project and can’t be changed.
-
Enter a Title. This field is required.
-
(Optional) Change the State, which starts as Not Started, and choose an Assignee.
-
Confirm the Due Date. The day you clicked is already filled in. Clear the field to put the task in the No Due Date panel instead of on the calendar.
-
Click Save.
A message reads [task title] was created successfully, and the new card appears in that day’s cell. Click Cancel to close the modal without creating a task.
The toolbar’s New button opens the full task creation page described in Creating Tasks From Project Details rather than the New Task modal.
Updating and Deleting Tasks From the Calendar
Hover over a task card to reveal its Actions (
) menu, then click it to select Edit, View, Watch Task (or Stop Watching Task), Assign to…, Update Due Date, or Delete. Each item appears only when you have permission for it, and the menu appears only when at least one action is available. Pressing Tab to move focus onto a card reveals the same menu.
-
Assign to… opens a modal for choosing a user; click Save to apply it.
-
Update Due Date opens a modal with the Due Date field pre-filled with the task’s current due date. Click Update, and the card moves to the new day. Clearing the field moves the task to the No Due Date panel.
-
Delete opens a confirmation modal warning that the deletion is permanent. Click Delete to confirm.
Most actions keep you on the calendar. Edit opens the same task edit page you reach from the Table and Kanban views, and View opens the task’s details page.
The calendar shows every change right away, with no page reload. A changed due date moves the card to its new day, a removed due date moves the task to the No Due Date panel, a new assignee updates the card’s avatar, and a deleted task’s card disappears.
All three views draw on the same task data, so a change you make from the calendar reaches the Table and Kanban views too. Switch to either one and the new due date, assignee, or state is already there, again with no reload.
Scheduling Tasks With No Due Date
When a project has tasks with no due date, the toolbar shows an orange Tasks With No Due Date button with a count (for example, 5 Tasks With No Due Date). Click it to open the No Due Date panel. The panel lists only the current project’s tasks and includes its own search field to filter by task title. It shows 20 tasks per page; use the pagination bar to show 40 or 60 instead.

Each row shows the assignee’s avatar, the task title, the task’s state, and an Actions menu. The title is a link when you have permission to view the task. Rows are ordered by state: Blocked first, then In Progress, Not Started, and Done.
Drag a row onto a day to give that task a due date. The panel stays open, the row disappears from it, and the count on the button drops by one.
