Switching Process and Responsibilities
Switch from Liferay Cloud to another environment and retrieve your data using the process, timelines, and responsibilities defined below.
This process applies to Liferay Cloud services, including SaaS, PaaS, and Analytics Cloud (Liferay Data Platform), and aligns with the EU Data Act (Chapter VI – Switching between data processing services).
Switching Process
-
Submit a switching notice (60 days)
Submit a request through Liferay Support to begin switching. This request starts the 60-day notice period before the transition period begins. You may need to provide additional information, such as destination details and confirmation of your switching intent.
-
Prepare for switching
Review your data, identify required exports, and plan your migration strategy.
-
Transition period (up to 30 days)
After the notice period ends, complete your data export and migration. Liferay maintains service availability and supports the switching process.
-
Extended transition
If the transition period cannot be completed within 30 days for technical reasons, Liferay provides justification and proposes an alternative timeline, up to a maximum of seven months.
-
Retrieval period (30 days)
After the transition period ends, you can continue to access and export your data for up to 30 days.
-
Completion and data deletion
After the retrieval period ends, Liferay deletes your data unless retention is required by law.
Responsibilities
Customer Responsibilities
-
Plan and execute the migration strategy
-
Export data using available tools and interfaces
-
Import and validate data in the destination environment
-
Manage the destination provider or infrastructure
-
Confirm when the switching process is complete
Liferay Responsibilities
-
Provide access to data export tools and interfaces
-
Maintain service availability during the transition period
-
Provide information required to support switching
-
Protect the security and integrity of data during the process
-
Delete data after the retrieval period, unless retention is required by law
Technical Considerations and Limitations
Consider these factors when planning your switching process:
-
Liferay does not recreate your environment in another provider.
-
Functional equivalence in the destination environment is not guaranteed.
-
Some data may be subject to legal retention requirements.
-
Export duration depends on data volume, configuration, and architecture.
-
You must import and validate data in your destination environment.
Assistance During Switching
Access documentation, APIs, and support channels to assist with data retrieval.
You are responsible for executing and managing the migration process.
Data Structures and Documentation
Use these resources to understand your data and plan your migration:
-
Product documentation covering data models, APIs, and architecture
-
API schemas and endpoint definitions
-
Public source code for Liferay DXP, including database schemas and service definitions
These resources provide transparency into how data is structured and stored.
