Connecting Liferay Data Platform to Marketo
Private Beta Feature Liferay Data Platform 2026.Q2+
Connect your Marketo instance to Liferay Data Platform (LDP) to ingest marketing data into your workspace. The connector uses OAuth client credentials to sync Individuals (Leads and Companies) from Marketo.
Marketo also streams custom marketing events to LDP as they occur (for example, email opens), independent of this connector. Add these events with the Marketo Event Stream data source, which generates a webhook endpoint URL and token the same way HubSpot does. See Webhook Payload Reference for payload fields and best practices.
Only one Marketo Event Stream data source is configured per LDP workspace. You can add more than one Marketo Campaign data source.
Prerequisites
Before connecting Marketo, ensure these requirements are met:
-
You have the Owner or Admin role in your LDP workspace.
-
You have access to a Marketo instance with Admin permissions.
-
Create a custom API-only service in Admin → LaunchPoint, and copy the generated Client ID and Client Secret.
-
Find your instance’s REST API endpoint URL in Admin → Web Services.
Ensure your Marketo instance contains the Lead and Company records you want to sync.
Add a Data Source
-
In the LDP panel, navigate to Settings → Data Sources.
-
Click Add Data Source and select Marketo Campaign.
-
Enter the Data Source URL, Consumer Key / Client ID, and Consumer Secret / Client Secret.
-
Click Connect.
Each Marketo token is associated with a single LDP workspace.
Select Items to Sync
After connecting, select the objects to ingest.
Individuals: Sync combined data from Leads and Companies.
Click Continue.
Field mappings are preconfigured to ensure data consistency. Manual field mapping is not supported.
Assign Properties
To make Marketo data available in LDP, associate it with one or more properties:
-
Choose which properties receive the data:
-
To assign specific properties, click Select and pick one or more from the modal.
-
To make it available across the entire workspace (including properties created later), select the Make individual data from this data source available in all properties, including those not yet created checkbox instead.
-
-
Click Finish Setup to start ingestion.
The connection becomes active immediately, and LDP keeps the synced data up to date.
View Synced Activity
After data syncs, open an individual’s detail page in the Individuals dashboard and click the Activities tab. The timeline shows the individual’s synced activity.
Manage the Connection
Go to Settings → Data Sources and select the Marketo data source. From this page, you can:
-
Edit the name using the Pencil icon (

-
Update synced objects or property assignments by editing the settings.
