Using Dark Mode

Liferay DXP 2026.Q3+ Beta Feature

Dark Mode renders the Liferay DXP administration interface in a dark color scheme. Each signed-in user picks light or dark for themselves, and site pages keep their own theme.

Enabling Dark Mode

Dark Mode is off by default. Enable the feature flag to add the mode button to the administration interface. Once it’s on, anyone with access to the administration interface can switch modes.

  1. Open the Global Menu (Global Menu) and navigate to Control Panel → Instance Settings.

  2. Click Feature Flags under Platform, then click Beta.

  3. Find the Dark and Light Mode (LPD-57922) entry and toggle it to Enabled. The change saves immediately.

Enable the Dark and Light Mode feature flag in the Beta section of Feature Flags.

  4. Refresh the browser window. The mode button appears in the panel header.

Switching Between Light and Dark Mode

The mode button appears in the header of each administration panel, including the Product Menu (Product Menu), Applications, and the Control Panel. Liferay DXP saves your choice, so it’s still in effect the next time you sign in, and it doesn’t affect anyone else.

  • In light mode, click the moon button (Switch to Dark Mode). The interface switches immediately.

The Product Menu header includes a moon button for switching to dark mode.

  • In dark mode, click the sun button (Switch to Light Mode) to switch back.

The Applications page appears in dark mode, and its panel header includes a sun button for returning to light mode.

What Dark Mode Affects and What It Doesn’t

Dark Mode restyles the administration interface only, including the Product Menu, the Global Menu, menus, and the Control Panel. Site pages keep their own theme and don’t go dark, so site visitors see no change. The Page Editor works the same way: its toolbars and side panels go dark, while the page you’re editing keeps the site’s theme.

The Product Menu, top bar, and Global Menu drop-down appear in dark mode while the site page behind them keeps the site's own theme.

Dark Mode is a visual preference, and it doesn’t by itself satisfy contrast requirements.
