Issue

  • When attempting to use the patching tool with a 7.0 Service Pack 12 bundle, the following configuration error is encountered:
Problem with the configuration: Couldn't find the portal-impl.jar. Please check the configuration or delete the existing configuration and run auto-discovery again.

Environment

  • DXP 7.0

Resolution

  • Navigate to [Liferay_Home]/patching-tool, and open the default.properties file in a text editor
  • Replace the default content of the file with the following:
patching.mode=binary
war.path=../tomcat-8.0.53/webapps/ROOT/
global.lib.path=../tomcat-8.0.53/lib/ext/
liferay.home=../

Additional Information

  • Alternately (as the error notes), you can delete the default.properties file, execute the patching-tool auto-discovery command, and create a new default.properties file containing the content printed in the console
  • If any of the file paths or directory names have been customized from the defaults, replace those values accordingly in the default.properties file
  • This issue is encountered because the properties war.path and global.lib.path reference an older  version of Tomcat, as the bundle contains the updated Tomcat 8.0.53 instead of Tomcat 8.0.32
