Issue

  • Is it possible to integrate a Liferay site content with external platforms like SharePoint, beyond .LAR file exports?

Environment

  • Liferay 7.4+

Resolution

  • Liferay sites are exported and shared as .LAR files. These files contain the site's content, pages, configurations, and other assets. However, they are not directly compatible with SharePoint or other external systems.

  • The .LAR file format is specific to Liferay and cannot be directly imported into SharePoint. To transfer content to a different platform, you would need to explore alternative methods such as content migration tools, custom integrations or exporting the content in a more universal format (e.g., HTML, XML) and then importing it into the target system.

  • While Liferay DXP offers integration with SharePoint for Documents and Media through a dedicated REST connector (available for DXP subscribers), this integration is focused on file management and does not extend to migrating entire sites or web content.
