Issue
- Liferay's default Document and Media portlet allows users to open files directly within the portlet. However, the view count for these documents isn't registered in the database unless the user downloads the file (or opens the document's friendly URL).
Resolution
- Opening a document in the Document and Media portlet technically opens a preview, which is excluded from view count updates. This is a current limitation.
- A feature request has been raised to address this: LPD-53658
