Issue
- In version 7.0, the username can be changed via system administrator, however, in version 7.3 it asks for the user's password to be able to make the changes.
Resolution
- The security reason behind this is to request the password of the current user in the event that the username or email is modified in the following cases:
-
- For non-administrator users, ask for the user's password if the user changes their username or email from the 'My account' section
-
For administrator users, ask for the password of the administrator user, whether the user changes their username or email in 'My account' or if the user changes any data for any user.
- This verification has been done to prevent that if someone leaves their system unlocked, another person can change the username or email without the other person noticing and thus being able to impersonate them.
- This functionality is added by LPS-112726.
