Issue

  • This article highlights the concern with the following path of log4j lower version jars.
    {liferay_home}/patching-tool/patches/liferay-fix-pack-dxp-16-7210.zip!binaries/MODULES_BASE_PATH/marketplace/Liferay Foundation - Liferay Connector to Elasticsearch 6 - Impl.lpkg/com.liferay.portal.search.elasticsearch6.impl-3.0.89.jar!lib/log4j-core-2.13.3.jar

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.2 with fix pack 16
  • Elasticsearch Version 7.16.2
  • Liferay Connector to Elasticsearch 7 v3.2.2

Resolution

  • In DXP 7.2, the fix pack 16 does not contain LPS-144881 nor LPS-144128 and that is why it contains version 2.13.3 of log4j jars, however, this is completely fine if the portal core and Liferay Foundation - Liferay Connector to Elasticsearch 6 - Impl.lpkg gets patched with the up-to-date log4j jars in the provided core hotfix for the same.
  • If the mentioned path remains a source of concern, please upgrade to Fix Pack 17, which includes log4j 2.17.0 jars, then install a new hotfix on top of this fix pack to patch core code.

Additional Information

  • Please create a support ticket requesting the hotfix by attaching the patch details.
  • Installing Fix Packs and Hotfixes on Liferay DXP will guide you to install the Fixpack/Hotfix in your environment.
  • Please update the patching-tool version to the patching tool version 2.0.16 first, and then install the hotfix. This patching version replaces log4j with reload4j to fix the security vulnerabilities
