Issue

  • When trying to upgrade our Liferay environment when using JNDI, normal upgrade tools don't work. What would be another method to update our Liferay environment without using the normal upgrade tools? 

Environment

  • DXP 7.4

Resolution

  • Liferay normally requires database configuration details and without them, normal upgrade tools provided by Liferay are unavailable and don't function as expected.
  • A simple workaround is available so that an upgrade within Liferay is easily accomplishable.
    • Add the following line to the portal-ext.properties file:  
      jdbc.default.driverClassName=
    • Setting this line to a blank value will allow the database to upgrade during server startup. 
  • A long-term fix has been requested with the Uniform Team. If a patch is better suited, have your Customer Support Engineer request a patch including LPS-197082.
