Issue
- High CPU activity can have multiple causes.
- Reviewing heap dumps may show a large number of objects
org.apache.catalina.session.StandardSession.
Environment
- Quarterly Release 2023.Q3, 2023.Q4, 2024.Q1
Resolution
- A high number of open sessions could point to a misconfiguration of the session timeout.
- As explained in the documentation (for example, How to Change the Session Timeout Value), the value needs to be specified in the portal-ext.properties and the application server's web.xml.
- Note that the units of both settings are in minutes.
- Choose a reasonable number for your needs. A value that's too large could lead high CPU activity and memory.
