Maintenance and Downtime

Sometimes, big changes in the underlying infrastructure of a project may cause downtime. When planning for these changes, you can enable maintenance mode to redirect traffic to a pre-configured maintenance page.

Note

Enabling maintenance mode is only available on Liferay PaaS.

  1. On your production environment, click Settings in the environment menu.
  2. Go to the Maintenance Page tab.
  3. Enable or disable maintenance mode by toggling the switch.

You can enable maintenance mode in the Maintenance Page tab.

Important

Maintenance mode requires the web server to be running.

Using Custom Maintenance Pages

Liferay Cloud offers a default maintenance page to display whenever the Liferay service fails.

Liferay Cloud offers a default maintenance page.

You can create and add your own maintenance page as an HTML file for these outages. This can be useful to communicate important information to your site’s visitors. For example, if downtime was a result of planned maintenance, it can be useful to communicate to your website’s visitors why the site is down.

To add your own custom page, click Upload a custom maintenance page. You can replace the maintenance page as often as you’d like.
