Issue

  • When activating a new task from Control Panel -> Job Scheduler -> Job Scheduler Triggers, it is fired immediately, regardless of the trigger schedule.

Environment

  • Liferay 7.4, 2023.Q3, 2024.Q3

Resolution

  • The start date of a task is managed by a third party library, quartz, specifically by the API method TriggerBuilder.startAt(java.util.Date).
  • Although its official documentation does not provide many details, it states that the trigger will not be fired before the specified date.
  • This case has been managed by Liferay through the fix https://liferay.atlassian.net/browse/LPD-44400, (2024.Q4.6+ and 2025.Q1.0+) where the startDate is passed internally as the latest runDate (under certain conditions) to avoid the problem.
