Issue

  • Usage of Monotype fonts require a license
  • If a user does not have the Monotype font license, is it necessary to remove references to Monotype font throughout the portal?

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.4

Resolution

  • Monotype fonts, such as Helvetica, is referred to in the Liferay CSS as one of the font-family options among several, but the Liferay product itself does not ship any Monotype fonts or cause them to be downloaded and used
  • The license for fonts is carried by the end-user and not by Liferay, so if the end-user does not have it, that font will not be displayed in their environment.
  • The reference to the font itself does not need to be removed
  • If a user does not have the license for a specific font, an alternative from the font-family will automatically be used
