Issue

  • I believe Java 17 is necessary for Spring 6 compatibility, and for being ready for the future of many Java libraries, I think Liferay should be compatible to Java 17 as soon as possible.

Resolution

  • We are working on making Java 21 supported.
  • For further information about the process, please visit the following link: LPD-15163.

Additional Information

  • The decision was based on how much time and effort would it be to make Java 17 fully compatible and supported.
  • We have decided that these efforts would be in a better place focusing Java 21.
