Issue

  • When starting up the Tomcat server I get the following stacktrace: 
    WARN [catalina-exec-15][PortalImpl:7173] Unable to resolve portal host
    java.net.UnknownHostException: [tomcat-host] Name or service not known
    at java.net.Inet4AddressImpl.lookupAllHostAddr(Native Method)
    at java.net.InetAddress$2.lookupAllHostAddr(InetAddress.java:929)
    at java.net.InetAddress.getAddressesFromNameService(InetAddress.java:1324)
    at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName0(InetAddress.java:1277)
    at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName(InetAddress.java:1193)
    at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName(InetAddress.java:1127)
    at java.net.InetAddress.getByName(InetAddress.java:1077)

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.0+

Resolution

  • The issue usually occurs when a web server proxy is used and a different tomcat hostname is also used
  • Add the application server's domain name to /etc/hosts, e.g.:
    127.0.0.1      app.server.host.com    localhost
