Unable to Reindex Elasticsearch due to missing analyzer plugins

Issue

  • Unable to reindex on a remote Elasticsearch server. Although it seemingly works in the UI, the following errors are thrown in the logs:
    2019-12-10 12:15:45.183 ERROR [liferay/search_writer/SYSTEM_ENGINE-5][ElasticsearchIndexWriter:364] Update failed 
    2019-12-10 12:15:45.184 ERROR [liferay/search_writer/SYSTEM_ENGINE-1][ElasticsearchIndexWriter:364] Update failed 
    2019-12-10 12:15:45.190 ERROR [liferay/search_writer/SYSTEM_ENGINE-3][ElasticsearchIndexWriter:364] Update failed 
    2019-12-10 12:15:45.206 ERROR [liferay/search_writer/SYSTEM_ENGINE-4][ElasticsearchIndexWriter:364] Update failed 
    2019-12-10 12:15:45.213 ERROR [liferay/search_writer/SYSTEM_ENGINE-5][ElasticsearchIndexWriter:364] Update failed 
    2019-12-10 12:15:45.215 ERROR [liferay/search_writer/SYSTEM_ENGINE-2][ElasticsearchIndexWriter:409] Bulk update failed

  • Elasticsearch 6.x and 7.x

Resolution

One or more of the following required Elasticsearch plugins are missing:

  • analysis-icu
  • analysis-kuromoji
  • analysis-smartcn
  • analysis-stempel
