Issue
When creating a Liferay Form that stores data in a custom Object, you cannot map an Object's "Multiselect Picklist" field to a "Multiple Selection" field on the form canvas. The multiselect object field does not appear in the Object Field dropdown under the Advanced tab of the Multiple Selection form element.
Environment
DXP 2025.Q1.5
Resolution
This is the expected behavior. In DXP, an Object's "Picklist" field (including multiselect) is only compatible with the Select from List form field.
Follow these steps to correctly map the field and allow multiple choices:
- In the form builder, add a Select from List field to the canvas.
- In the settings for this field, enable the Allow Multiple Selections toggle. This transforms the dropdown into a multi-select component.
- Navigate to the Advanced tab for this field.
- From the Object Field dropdown, select and map your multiselect picklist field from the Object.
Why does it work this way?
This behavior is dictated by Liferay's Field Compatibility Reference:
- Picklists: Picklists are structured as predefined system choices backed by the
ListTypeframework. The Select from List form component is the only element engineered to pull and store data from these predefined list structures. - Multiple Selection: The Multiple Selection checkbox form field is designed to handle raw Text String data. Because a Picklist is not a simple string field, the system excludes it from the mapping options for the Multiple Selection component to maintain data integrity.
