This article serves as a troubleshooting guide. During a thread dump, your server may hang indefinitely due to the blocking portal cache. Blocking portal cache is one of the caches that the Liferay platform uses for clustering; it is not a hibernate cache, it is what Liferay uses with transactional cache.

Affected Products

Liferay Portal 6.0.x EE

Resolution

To correct the hanging portal, turn off portal blocking cache so transactional cache can go through and no deadlock occurs.

  1. Turn it off using the portal.property: ehcache.blocking.cache.allowed=false

  2. You'll also want to ensure that the portal has a "strong" database connection. In other words, it should have a close connection to the local database before doing so only one cache is utilized.
