Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.3

Resolution

  • Double check your settings: System Settings > Template Engines > FreeMarker Engine
    • You may use this query if you cannot access your instance:
select * from configuration_ c where configurationid like '%FreeMarkerEngineConfiguration%'
    • Save your current settings, in case you need them later.
  • Also, check if you already have a configuration file for com.liferay.portal.template.freemarker.configuration.FreeMarkerEngineConfiguration.config in LIFERAY_HOME/osgi/configs.
  • Try restoring the default settings by adding the attached file to LIFERAY_HOME/osgi/configs. Remove any previous FreeMarkerEngineConfiguration file if exists. You will need to restart your server.
    • Note: the attached FreeMarkerEngineConfiguration file was the default configuration in 7.3 SP1. If you are using a different version, make sure to get the default configuration for that version.
  • After that, your system should be stable again. Once it is stable, you may want to adjust the configuration to your needs again, but be careful not to cause instability again.
