Issue

  • After upgrading from a previous version of Liferay to Liferay DXP 7.2, some portlets were disabled and displayed error messages such as "This portlet is inactive. Please contact your portal administrator to enable it" when they were attempted to view.

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.2

Resolution

  • This issue is due to the portlets being originally disabled in the Liferay instance before the upgrade was performed.
  • You can either:
    • Activate these portlets in your pre-upgrade version of Liferay, or activate them after having performed the upgrade
      • For Liferay Portal, you can activate the portlets by going to Admin -> Control Panel -> App Manager and expanding the Liferay Core section. For all portlets that are labeled "Inactive", select the Inactive button to toggle it to active
      • For Liferay DXP, you can activate the portlets by going to Control Panel -> Configuration -> Components and selecting the items and checking the Active checkbox.
