This article is a legacy article. It applies to previous versions of the Liferay product. While the article is no longer maintained, the information may still be applicable.

The intended behavior of the Liferay Portal is to automatically reindex when any user is updated or created. Sometimes, for some reason, this does not happen. This article looks at a portal property that functions as a potentially helpful workaround to this issue.

Resolution

If reindexing does not solve the issue of searching the index, one potential solution is to search from the database. It will cause a slight performance hit, but in most environments it is sufficient (and much better than reindexing after every change to a user). To do this, set within the portal-ext.properties:
users.search.with.index=false
