Issue

  • When switching the language from English to Hindi, the numeric values in the pagination control change to Hindi numerals.

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.4
  • Quarterly Release 2023.Q3

Resolution

  • This issue is due to the default behavior of Java's NumberFormat class when using JDK versions below 17. The support for English numerals was started on later DXP releases (DXP 2024.Q2+) when we switched to JDK 17.
  • To resolve this in DXP versions prior to 2024.Q2 and JDK versions below 17, add                                            -Djava.locale.providers=CLDR to the app.server.jvm.args at the application server level.
  • For example, in Tomcat:
    • Replace  -Djava.locale.providers=JRE,COMPAT,CLDR with
      -Djava.locale.providers=CLDR on the vanilla instance of Liferay version prior to DXP 2024.Q2 in the setenv.sh file and restart the server.
  • For WebLogic Server:
    • Go to the WebLogic domain home directory and navigate to the bin directory ($DOMAIN_HOME/bin).
    • For Linux/macOS: Edit the setDomainEnv.sh file.
    • Add the following lines:
      EXTRA_JAVA_PROPERTIES="${EXTRA_JAVA_PROPERTIES} -Djava.locale.providers=CLDR"
      export EXTRA_JAVA_PROPERTIES

    • Save the file and restart WebLogic.
