Issue

  • Following error appears when upgrading from 7.0 to 7.4 if page template has no name:
Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException
at com.liferay.layout.page.template.internal.upgrade.v3_2_0.LayoutPageTemplateEntryUpgradeProcess._generateLayoutPageTemplateEntryKey(LayoutPageTemplateEntryUpgradeProcess.java:44) ~[?:?]
at com.liferay.layout.page.template.internal.upgrade.v3_2_0.LayoutPageTemplateEntryUpgradeProcess._upgradeLayoutPageTemplateEntryKey(LayoutPageTemplateEntryUpgradeProcess.java:69) ~[?:?]
at com.liferay.layout.page.template.internal.upgrade.v3_2_0.LayoutPageTemplateEntryUpgradeProcess.doUpgrade(LayoutPageTemplateEntryUpgradeProcess.java:34) ~[?:?]

Environment

  • Upgrade from 7.0 to 7.4

Resolution

  • Page templates name in 7.0 was not mandatory when filling it from the portal user interface.
  • If the NPE appears on the upgrade logs please check with the following query if you have any case where the name is empty: select layoutPageTemplateEntryId, name from LayoutPageTemplateEntry where name is null;
  • If so, add a name from Control Panel > Sites > Page Templates or remove it if the page template is no longer needed.
