Nested Web Content Workflow status are not getting updated

Issue

  • When editing and publishing the web content which is having another web content embedded into it, its status becomes pending but the expected is that the structured/embedded web content's status should also be pending.
  • Steps used to reproduce: Applied the single approver workflow to the web content. Created a basic web content WC1, created another web content WC2 with the structure (with web content field) and template to embed another web content. After creating a new web content using this structure and template, embedded the already approved article and then published it, and it got approved by an administrator.

    Now when editing and publishing the WC1, its status becomes pending. Since this already embedded into WC2, expecting the structured web content's status should also be pending.

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.1, 7.2, 7.0

Resolution

  • Ideally, the web content won't go for approval until it has been submitted. This applies to with or without workflow. Due to this, another web content embedded into it won't go for approval again.
