Issue

  • Is it possible to deactivate File Attachments on the Message Board portlet?

Environment

  • Liferay Portal 6.2
  • Liferay DXP+

Resolution

  • By adjusting the role/permissions according to the user and the Message Boards portlet it is possible.
    1. With the Admin create a new page and add a Message Boards portlet to it.
    2. Navigate to Control Panel --> Users --> Roles. Here create a Regular role.
    3. Edit the role and verify under Content the Message Boards permissions. Select all options with excluding the 'Add File' permission under Resource Permissions, Message Boards Category, and save the role.
    4. Create a new user and make him a Site member. Grant the user with the new role.
    5. With your Admin navigate to the Message Boards portlet and click on Permissions. A new window will open, disable the 'Add File' option from the Site Member and save.
    6. Checkpoint: This is important because our user is also a Site Member. Our goal is to limit the user's option in uploading files and with this action, our custom role can work as expected.
    7. Login with the new user and create a new thread in the Message Boards portlet.
  • Result: You will notice that the attachments option is not available.

A video of the above scenario is attached to the article.
