Issue

  • The Liferay upgrade process hangs at one specific part for a longer period of time (several hours) 
com.liferay.dynamic.data.mapping.internal.upgrade.v1_0_0.UpgradeDynamicDataMapping#upgradeXMLStorageAdapter

Environment

  • Portal 6.2 while upgrading to DXP 7.0 and above 

Resolution

  • This step of the upgrade process goes through the DDMContent table's data_ field. The contents of this field have been changed from XML to JSON from DXP 7.0 and above.
  • This converting process could take a long time depending on how much data you have in the DDMContent table or how many locales are used. 

Additional Information

  • This process can be monitored by running the following SELECT query
    • SELECT count(*) FROM ddmcontent where data_ like '{%}';
    • It will count the number of data_ fields with curly brackets.
