Issue

Environment

  • Liferay DXP [all updates]
  • Liferay DXP DXP 2023.Q3

Resolution

  • Java 17 is fully supported in 2024.Q2+, along with JBoss 7.4 EAP. Liferay’s roadmap also includes Jakarta EE 10 + JBoss 8 EAP + Java 21.
  • Java 17 will not be removed until after we add Jboss 8/Jakarta support. So users can plan on migration to Jboss 8/Jakarta before Java 21. But this will not be possible second half of 2025 at the earliest.
  • Liferay's compatibility matrix changes are projected to follow this order:
    • Remove Jboss 7.4 + Add Jboss 8 + Add Jakarta EE 10
    • Drop Java 17
  • Liferay intended this particularly to accommodate Jboss users who must currently run Java 17.
