Is it possible to add additional columns to the CSV Log Message Formatter system setting?

Issue

• While looking into configuring CSV Log Auditing for an environment, our team noticed that the CSV Log Message Formatter system setting (within System Settings > Audit) has +/- buttons to add/remove columns. Is it possible to add additional columns to the auditing output, such as a user's screen name or email address?

Resolution

• At this time, the only columns available within the audit logging are the ones already present by default, as seen within this CSVLogMessageFormatterConfiguration.java file:
  • additionalInfo
  • className
  • classPK
  • clientHost
  • clientIP
  • companyId
  • eventType
  • message
  • serverName
  • serverPort
  • sessionID
  • timestamp
  • userId
  • userName

Additional Information

• The +/- buttons are instead present to further filter and configure the columns included, with the - button removing any default categories that are not needed, and the + button allowing the ability to re-add a previously removed default column.
• For reference, the hard-coded fields are populated using a method toJSONObject within this AuditMessage.java file. It may be possible to create a custom module that extends the AuditMessage.java and overrides the toJSONObject method to add more columns; however, as the out-of-the-box AuditMessages are instantiated with the new operator in various parts of the portal, those messages may return null if columns other than the default ones are added (if the additional parts of the portal associated with this logging are not also customized accordingly).
• A feature request has been opened at LPS-130934 to look into the possibility of adding additional available columns, such as a screen name or email address, as out-of-the-box possibilities.
