Issue

  • Cross Document Messaging (also known as Web Messaging) introduced the postMessage() method, with which plaintext messages can be sent cross-origin. It consists of two parameters: “message”, and “targetOrigin”. If "targetOrigin" is set to ''*" this indicates that it can disclose the data to the unknown origin, or an attacker's machine
  • Steps to reproduce:
  1. Start the server
  2. Hit the particular URL
  3. Search for the postMessage("","*")

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.2

Resolution

  • The observed behavior is a known bug that has been addressed by the LPS-195491.
