Issue

  • Enabling live user track on the Liferay portal is saving the tracked data of all users in the "UserTrackerPath" table due to which the growth of the table is keeps increasing. Is there any impact due to the growth in data entries?

Environment

  • Liferay Portal 6.2
  • Liferay DXP 7.0, 7.1, 7.2

Resolution

  • The "UserTrackerPath" table is dedicated to saving the tracked data of all live users. Since there is no data is fetching from that table it should not impact the portal performance or functionality and Liferay will never provide any functionality which impacts performance or other functionality of the portal.
    # Set this to true to enable tracking via Live Users.
    #
    live.users.enabled=true

    #
    # Set this to true to track user clicks in the database after a user's
    # session is invalidated. Setting this to true allows you to generate usage
    # reports from the database. Use this cautiously because this will store a
    # lot of usage data.
    #
    session.tracker.persistence.enabled=true

Additional information

  • Liferay has already provided the warning on that property as enabling the respective property will store a lot of usage data.
