Issue
- You might encounter an error when using OpenID Connect, and users who are not yet been registered to Liferay are unable to login as they are identified as strangers.
- The error appears as the company.security.strangers is set to false
- You can also check this on the UI, by navigating to the Control Panel → Configuration → Instance Settings → Authentication and observe the “Allow strangers to create accounts?” option.
- In case disabling this setting is a security requirement on your end, then unfortunately it is not yet implemented to honour this property when using OpenID Connect: LPS-177581
Resolution
- Allow strangers to create accounts by setting the property to true, or check the box on the UI
- Use SAML instead of OpenID Connect, as it is already implemented: LPS-105162
- Wait for the LPS-177581 to be implemented
