Issue

  • We have a requirement to mask the PI (Personal Information) data in our database. Is it possible to install the mask-related plugin in the Liferay PaaS environment?

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.4

Resolution

  • It would not be possible to mask the data in the database as Google Cloud's managed MySQL service doesn't allow the installation of plugins over the PaaS Platform.
  • However, there are third-party data masking tools like DataSunrise that integrate with the Google Cloud Platform and offer functionalities to define masking rules for specific columns and data types. They often provide dynamic masking, ensuring real-time protection without requiring separate masked databases.
  • But as the Data Masking is not a feature we currently provide to Liferay SaaS/PaaS infrastructure, it would not be possible to enable any third-party integration that isn't officially supported, except for Liferay Self-Hosted infrastructure.
