Issue

  • When you write a comment on a web content, you will automatically start receiving emails on every update that is made on that web content.

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.2, DXP 7.3

Resolution

  • This is an expected behavior. However, there are two different options to avoid it.
    1. Disable the automatic subscription when making a comment: With this the user will not be subscribed by default to the content. However if the user does decide to subscribe to that content, they will receive the notification emails.
To disable automatic subscription set the portal property discussion.subscribe to false.

    2. Disable all comments: Another option, a bit more drastic, would be to disable ALL notification emails in comments. That is to say, the user will not receive any comment notification email, even if the user is subscribed and regardless of the component (documents&media, web contents,...).
To disable this option, go to Control Panel -> System Settings -> Comments and disable the "Email Discussion Comment Added Enabled" check.
