Issue

  • There are two cookies generated by Liferay DXP, COOKIE_SUPPORT & GUEST_LANGUAGE_ID, which is not marked as Secure.

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.1 + JBoss

Resolution

  • This is related to the Web Server and Application Server settings.
  • When a request comes from a secure channel (e.g., https or ajp), all cookies including COOKIE_SUPPORT & GUEST_LANGUAGE_ID, are automatically added with the secure flag.
  • For example:
    • Setup HTTPS on the Web Server, and use module_http to connect to the Application Server. COOKIE_SUPPORT & GUEST_LANGUAGE_ID are not set to secure as the request is not coming from a secure channel (for example ajp).
    • Setup HTTPS on the Web Server, and use module_ajp to connect to the Application Server. COOKIE_SUPPORT & GUEST_LANGUAGE_ID are automatically set to secure as the request is coming from a secure channel, ajp.
