Issue

  • How to access the virtual instance (of Liferay Server running on Machine A) over Machine B without using the internet?

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.4

Resolution

  • First, check the domain configured for your virtual instance by navigating to Control Panel > Configuration > Virtual Instances. Let's say it's abc.com
  • Please add this domain to the system's host file as 127.0.0.1 abc.com and save it.
  • Verify if the virtual instance can be accessed on the same machine by  hitting http://abc.com:8080.
  • To access this virtual instance from a different machine on the same network, identify the IP address of Machine A where the Liferay instance is running.
  • Add the domain name of the virtual instance to the host file of Machine B and save it.
For example: <IP address of Machine A> abc.com (Something like this: 192.168.**.*** abc.com)
  • Now, on Machine B, please navigate to a web browser and hit http://abc.com:8080. You should be able to access the virtual instance of the Liferay server running on the original machine.
  • Please note that both Machine A and Machine B should be connected to the same network.
