Managing Design Library Members

Release Feature (LPD-57283) Liferay DXP 2026.Q3+

A design library’s members are the users and user groups added to it. The design library roles you assign to each member determine what that member can do in the library.

Adding Members

  1. Open the Global Menu (Applications) and click ApplicationsDesign Libraries.

  2. Click the library, then click More Actions (More Actions) → Manage Members.

This item reads View Members if your permissions cover viewing members but not assigning them.

  3. In the Add People to Collaborate field, choose whether you are searching users or user groups, then enter a name or email address and select the result.

Liferay DXP adds the member with the Design Library Member role and notifies them that they were invited to collaborate in the library.

  4. Under Who Has Access, click the member’s role control, then select any additional roles they need.

Changes apply immediately. You cannot clear Design Library Member, because every member holds it.

To remove a member, click Remove (Remove) next to the user or user group under Who Has Access. Removal takes effect without a confirmation, and the member loses access to the library and its design assets.

Design Library Roles

Liferay DXP generates the design library roles when you enable the LPD-57283 feature flag, so they do not exist on an instance where the flag has never been enabled.

You can assign three of them:

RoleCapabilities
Design Library AdministratorActs as a super user of the library. Can add members and assign the Design Library Content Reviewer and Design Library Member roles, but cannot make another user a Design Library Administrator.
Design Library Content ReviewerCreates, edits, and deletes the library’s style books and fragments, and manages the tags applied to them. Cannot change the library’s settings, delete the library, manage its members, or export and import it.
Design Library MemberBelongs to the library. Every member holds this role, and on its own it grants view access only.

The fourth role, Design Library Owner, belongs to whoever created the library and cannot be assigned to anyone else. An owner is a super user of the library and can assign every design library role, including Design Library Administrator.

A member’s roles govern what they reach inside the library. A member with neither style book nor fragment permission opens the library and finds no design assets available to them.

See Understanding Roles and Permissions for how Liferay DXP scopes roles generally.
