How to add Sample Data to Liferay DXP?

Issue

  • While this might be a simple thing to do, the way to do this may be unknown to most Liferay users.

Environment

  • Liferay DXP

Resolution

  • Whenever you're first setting up your Liferay DXP server, you'll find the setup wizard section as soon as it launches. In order to add Sample Data to it, you'll need to follow these steps:
    1. Click on the drop-down menu to alter the database
    2. If using Hypersonic, you'll need to change the database to whatever it is there to choose and then select Hypersonic again
    3. Check the "Add Sample Data" option

Additional Information

  • If you select the option to change the database and leave it as it is, the "Add Sample Data" option will remain grayish and thus unavailable, that's why another database needs to be selected in order for it to be accessible.
  • Although this is an old documentation, it still applies to Liferay DXP: Installing a Bundle.
