Issue

  • Gauges in Control Panel > Server Administration are not shown
  • There are NPE in log files, similar to  
    Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException
     at sun.awt.FontConfiguration.getVersion(FontConfiguration.java:1264)

Environment

  • OpenJDK

Resolution

  • Due to licensing issues, some JDK implementations (notably OpenJDK) do not include some system fonts. The solution to this issue is to install those fonts in the operating system. 
  • The exact details depend on the particular OS. RedHat, for example, includes those fonts in a package named fontconfig as well as dejavu-sans-fonts and dejavu-serif-fonts. Debian (and debian-likes) requires fonts-dejavu and fontconfig. Please refer to your OS manual for specific information.
