Issue

  • After making changes to different properties in the portal-ext.properties file, these changes are not being reflected in the environment when Liferay is being started up.

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.0

Resolution

  • When Liferay starts, sometimes it can load multiple portal-ext.properties files, potentially from different locations, which can potentially cause a conflict with properties holding different values between the files.
  • To verify this, review the console that shows the startup logs for Liferay, which should show a number of lines loading different property files (see example below). 
    Loading file:/home/user/liferay_home/portal-ext.properties
  • Check to see if there are multiple portal-ext.properties files. If there are, consolidate these properties listed into one file, reconciling any duplicates that there might be.
  • Restart Liferay and verify that only one portal-ext.properties file loads.
