Master Page Templates

Available: Liferay DXP/Portal 7.3+

Master page templates define common elements (e.g., headers and footers) for pages using fragments, allowing easier management without deploying a plugin. You can use the same template across a site or have unique templates for each page. Each page and page template must have an associated master page template.

By default, the out-of-the-box Blank master page template provides no common elements.

The blank master page template is the default for pages, and page templates.

Building Master Page Templates

Building a master page template is similar to creating a content page. It can contain multiple page fragments and includes a key area called the Drop Zone, where you can place page fragments. The Drop Zone can’t be removed but can be repositioned. You can also define which fragments can be added. A typical use case is a template with a header, a footer, and a drop zone. See Creating a Master Page Template for more information.
