Issue

  • I'm unable to get the Elasticsearch Sidecar to start after upgrading to a quarterly release of Liferay DXP.
  • When checking the server logs, I see the following error message:
  • java.lang.reflect.InaccessibleObjectException: Unable to make field static final java.lang.invoke.MethodHandles$Lookup java.lang.invoke.MethodHandles$Lookup.IMPL_LOOKUP accessible: module java.base does not "opens java.lang.invoke" to unnamed module

Environment

  • 2025.Q1.14

Resolution

  • This issue is resolved by defining --add-opens=java.base/java.lang.invoke=ALL-UNNAMED within the JDK_JAVA_OPTIONS environment variable, which should be set at a system level or within your application server's environment setup.
  • After making this change, restart your application server for it to take effect.
