Issue

  • Whether you want to copy over User Roles and its respective permissions from one environment to another, or in order to keep a backup of your current Roles and Permissions set before making big changes, Liferay offers the ability to export and import your User Roles.

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.0, 7.1 and 7.2

Resolution

  1. From the Source environment, go to Control Panel > Users > Roles
  2. Click on the icon on the top right hand side in order to bring up the Options menu (⁝) > Export/Import
  3. Go through the Export process choosing any options that you will want to enable or disable.
  4. Once the Export process has completed, download the LAR file.
  5. In the Target environment, go to Control Panel > Users > Roles
  6. Click on the icon on the top right hand side in order to bring up the Options menu (⁝) > Export/Import
  7. Click on the Import tab
  8. Drag and drop the downloaded LAR file from the Source environment, or choose it from the file selector
  9. Go through the Import process, enabling or disabling your preferred settings.

Please note that with any fix pack or hotfix update, the code related to roles and permissions may be subject to change. Please ensure that the environment that you are generating the LAR file from is on the same version and patch level as the target environment. Additionally, please make sure that the LAR file that is to be imported is from the same version (e.g., 7.0 to 7.0 or 7.2 to 7.2).
