Issue

  • When you start Liferay 7.3 you can see two new different Java processes running, while in older versions only the first one was created:
    1. org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap
    2. com.liferay.petra.process.local.LocalProcessLauncher

Environment

  • Liferay 7.3.

Resolution

  • com.liferay.petra.process.local.LocalProcessLauncher corresponds to Elasticsearch's Sidecar:
    • In non production environments, this process is launched separately with the Elasticsearch server.
    • On the other handm, in production environments you configure the Elasticsearch remote server, so this second process is not launched.

Additional Information

  • More info about using ElasticSearch's Sidecar here.
