Issue

  • When uploading or previewing images or documents that have not been previously loaded, the following WARN will be thrown.
WARN [liferay/document_library_pdf_processor-1][BaseProcessorMessageListener:40] Unable to process file version 123713
    com.liferay.petra.process.ProcessException: java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "java": error=2

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.0, 7.1, 7.2

Resolution

  • It occurs when the server tries to execute the separate java process that generates the document previews, it does not find java executable and throws the above exception.
  • There is a solution and a workaround:
    • Solution: In order to avoid this behavior, the PATH variable must be set with the path of the java executable. It's usually located in JAVA_HOME/bin.
    • Workaround: To prevent the document preview process to be executed separately set the portal property dl.file.entry.preview.fork.process.enabled to false.
Important: This workaround is not recommended in production environment.
