Issue
-
PDF files not previewing in Item Selector
-
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a web content structure with a Documents and Media field. Create a template for this structure.
2. Start creating a new web content of this structure, click Select under the Documents and Media field, and in the popup click Select File, in order to select and upload a file from a local file system.
3. Select a PDF file from a local file system.
Observed Behavior: The loaded preview of the file is broken (there's no preview)
Expected Behavior: A preview should be shown also for PDF files.
-
Environment
- Liferay DXP 7.3
Resolution
- The previewer works like a simple carousel and the PDF needs multipage support/navigation, because of this, it doesn't seem that PDF previews will be shown in the image editor.
- However, it concluded that showing previews for PDF is a missing feature since the Item Selector Preview was designed to display only image and video previews.
- This feature might be added in the future which can be tracked here: LPS-144378
Additional Information
- Hotfix can be asked so that instead of the broken image icon, a message can be displayed which says "There is no preview available" in case of files that cannot have a preview in the file selector (like PDF files).
- Please create a support ticket requesting the hotfix by attaching the patch details.
- Installing Fix Packs and Hotfixes on Liferay DXP will guide you to install the Fixpack/Hotfix in your environment.
- LPS-144290
- Please note that the exact implementation will depend on the developers' decision, and the new feature can only be added to future Liferay releases.
