Issue

  • What procedures does Liferay follow to perform security scanning?

Environment

  • Liferay DXP

Resolution

  • Liferay uses DAST and SAST tools for scanning. Pen test and manual code reviews are performed as well. The internal procedures are classified as proprietary information since a lot of effort is spend manipulating the scanning tools and our code to remove the false positives and find false negatives. Over the years the manipulations performed are different for different scanning tools, so the internal procedures likely won't work for others tools.

Liferay doesn't recommend to perform custom scannings over Liferay's code: a big amount of false positives (as an example, in DXP 7.4 55.000+ vulnerabilities generated from the tools needed to be sort) that must be analyzed according to support's policy for handling vulnerability are reported.
